Scleromalacia perforans is a rare yet serious form of scleritis, an inflammatory disease that affects the white outer coating of the eye, called the sclera. Also known as necrotizing scleritis without inflammation, scleromalacia perforans is generally asymptomatic (without symptoms), but may cause painless eye irritation and redness.
